Automation Engineer
Background
OYA is changing the way soft skills are taught at companies. That is because soft skills help people work together better and increase productivity. Soft skills make happy teams, create a fun culture and a flexible company.
OYA enables people to improve these important skills in less than 5min a day. We allow leaders to shape and change the company culture for everyone’s benefit.
Did you know?
58% of managers say they never receive manager training!
Soft skills improve a team and company performance by up to 12%. That’s half a day of work a week.
Young millennials and gen Z prefer real-time communication and collaboration tools, such as chat and google docs. These are the people who are now becoming managers.
We want to make it exciting and fun to improve these essential business skills. Skills that will stay with someone for life.
OYA’s interactive, gamified training process is delivered through a chat interface, such as Slack or Microsoft-teams. The business is young, and with that comes the rush of building something new. You will be joining a small team that is onboarding new clients and learning as we go.
The Role
OYA is a startup with an MVP. Our engineers are working hard to expand the technology, but there is a lot we can do quickly without the need for code development.
This role has 3 major parts:
Part 1: To keep our processes running, we currently do a number of tasks manually. This needs to change, and you are here to make that change happen. Help us automate these manual tasks and processes. Tools like Zapier will become your friend. You will help develop, maintain and update our Zaps as the business grows.
Part 2: Using 3rd party tools to help us manage, expand and maintain our cool client portal. This may require some “low code” knowledge.
Part 3: Testing and helping to write automated test scripts. This will help us spot problems before our clients.
What you will be doing day-to-day:
Every morning, when you will start work, you will check that the automated tools are running correctly. If there are any issues, you will jump at the opportunity to fix them and communicate what happened.
After that, you will review the task board to see what tasks need to be done. Every day will present a new challenge.
Regularly meet with the CEO to define and prioritise the different tasks.
You will be building, expanding and refining stuff using no-code applications such as Zapier.
You and OYA will be learning as we go. That means:
Learning the tools as we go.
Iterating when we learn.
Updating tools that you built.
Using data to drive decisions.
Working with the CEO to understand the needs of our clients, then turning those needs into amazing features and products.
You will need to be highly independent, yet aligned with the business. Daily check-ins and regular slack messages will be the norm.
The agreed scoped work will be detailed and groomed in a Kanban board. If you don’t know what a Kanban board is, don’t worry. You will learn.
Note: You are not alone at OYA. We are learning about these tools at the same time.
Coming up with cool technical solutions for real business problems.
Some of the major upcoming automation work:
Help to build automation tests for our core system.
Expand our client-facing web portal for HR and company leaders to log in and learn about progress.
Automating the uploading of lessons.
Automating our reporting processes.
Willingness to do things a few times manually to learn the process.
Testing our system. Bug fixing, site & environment management, testing.
Writing automated tests. Yes, we take testing seriously.
Requirements
This role requires someone who is tech-savvy with an eye for detail. You must be a strong communicator and able to learn quickly. You are passionate about tech and love to try things.
Core requirements:
Ability to learn new no-code and low-code tools. If you are familiar with a few already, that’s great. However be aware, we may want you to learn other ones too.
Key skills we will look for:
Logic and process understanding.
Willingness to learn a little bit of technical stuff/ some basic code.
Translation of a story into a process.
Tenacity.
Team skills:
Communication, especially on technical topics.
Story-telling. You will deal with complex, multi-step processes that can be simplified/ made easy to understand.
Knowing when to ask for help.
An eye for details.
You are able to understand the business and client needs behind what you are building.
Comfortable working in English.
Nice to haves:
A keen eye for design. Our web portal needs to look good and be functional.
What we are NOT after:
Someone who wants to interconnect everything. While we use these tools, they will be largely independent of each other (with a couple of exceptions).
Someone who builds first, asks questions later. We need someone who can take a step back and understand the problem being solved before they start trying stuff.
Inflexibility. We are a startup. Things are going to change. User and client feedback is going to come in on a regular basis. If you can’t handle that, then OYA is not for you.
Someone who insists we use a specific tool, just because they’ve used it before. We evaluate each tool for its use.
Benefits
We want to make OYA a fun and interesting place to work. We can offer:
The opportunity to join a growing company. You will be an early employee at a startup that is going somewhere!
Ability to learn important new tools that are changing the tech industry.
